LMB Presentation!!

Julia and I successfully played our LMB DVD to everyone...we we're slightly prepared for a backlash from others about the fact that there shouldn't be that amount of textile waste in the first place, and is it right to ship it over to Africa for them to deal with? however in our opinion the fact is that the society we live in today accepts the sheer amount of waste we create and there is a major waste issue...at LMB they sort through the waste and only send re-saleable clothing to Uganda - where there is no viable textile industry at the moment to sustain themselves - we are not saying that it should continue this way forever but at the moment is it not good to be giving people over there a chance to earn a wage and create their own businesses rather than rely on charity?!

Here's our link to the short animation (Julia's poem is amazing!!)

ABOUT ME

Zoe Grace Fletcher Currently undertaking a PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University within the MIRIAD post-graduate department, I am beginning a practice based academic journey into British wool fibres and new technologies within knitwear design. Graduating with Distinction from a Masters in Fashion and the Environment at London College of Fashion, specialising in hand-knitting and the British Wool Industry, I have worked on a number of knitwear collections (personal and external companies), whilst freelancing and researching for a number of exciting projects. My work revolves around the idea of sustainable fashion from a knitted perspective and the different ways to achieve this incorporating the ideas of slow fashion into mainstream society. I love knitting. And wool. And double sided sticky tape.
