Fashioning a Sustainable Food Industry

At first glance the industries of food and fashion may be worlds apart. However, the sustainability issues throughout the lifecycle and supply chains of each share many complexities. From organic and ethical production, to distribution, labeling, transparency and overconsumption resulting in extreme waste and pollution, fashion and food are two industries facing major change in order to sustain a prosperous future.

The Footprint Awards rewards the achievements of those leading the way towards a sustainable future for the foodservice industry. To celebrate the inaugural Footprint Awards, two MA Fashion and the Environment graduates Julia Roebuck and Zoe Fletcher have been commissioned to design and construct five couture garments using materials donated from the sponsors to communicate and raise awareness of the sustainability challenges shared by the food and fashion industries.

Julia and Zoe have recently graduated from the postgraduate masters course run by the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at the London College of Fashion and are passionate about using design to raise awareness of sustainability issues and communicate the need for change.
